We will be sending to Access To Music & Partner College Centres during half-term resources and posters regarding
the forthcomingPlay Safe Campaign, this year running from the 2nd to 27th November 2009.
The Play Safe month is a national Access To Music campaign to raise awareness of health and safety issues related to musicians, specifically students.
This campaign is supported by the RNID’s Don’t Lose The Music project, The British Association for Performing Arts Medicine and Advanced Communication Solutions.
We again have 2000 copies of the LSC ‘Be Safe’ introductory guide to health and safety in the work place’ with workbook together with Access to Music’s Play Safe Handbook. These are specific resources and guides for your students and are
aimed at raising awareness amongst learners about health and safety and hazards in music environments, which could
be integrated into Key Skills sessions. Due to numbers required for all your students and postal weight I would like to
make arrangements for those Centres attending Music Live at the NEC Birmingham on the 6th November to pick them
up if possible from the Access To Music Stand.
Visits can also be arranged to your Centre from hearing protection consultants and specialists in health support to performing artists.
There will also be a competition for your students to win a set of bespoke Advanced Communication Solutions (ACS) Custom Armour earplugs, worth over £130, plus runner-up hearing protection prizes and tickets to see gigs by ACS endorsees.
Again, we would ask all tutors to embrace this campaign and utilise it to help integrate the subject of health and safety for musicians into the curriculum.
